Privacy policy
rcbuildr is a hobby site built and run by rc enthusiasts. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how you can access or delete it.
We collect what we need to run and improve the site. We don’t sell your personal information, and we won’t use it in ways you wouldn’t reasonably expect.
What we collect
- Account information: Your username, email address, and password. Passwords are securely hashed, so we can’t read them. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture instead of a password.
- Profile information: Anything you choose to add, including your display name, bio, location, avatar, and links to other accounts.
- Content: Your builds, parts lists, photos, posts, comments, likes, and follows. This information is generally public and visible to other users.
- Sign-in information: We use a cookie to keep you logged in and record your IP address and browser type when you sign in to help protect your account.
Cookies, analytics and embeds
We may use analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, and what kind of device they use. These tools use cookies and collect information like pages viewed and an approximate location. We use it to improve rcbuildr, not to identify you.
Some pages include content from Reddit or YouTube. These embeds connect to their respective services, which may collect information or set cookies according to their own privacy policies. YouTube embeds use privacy-enhanced mode.
If we add advertising or other services that use cookies in future, we’ll update this policy first.
Featured builds from Reddit
Some featured builds are based on publicly available Reddit posts. For these, we store the author’s Reddit username, a link to the original post, a short excerpt, extracted parts information, and the post date. Photos are loaded directly from Reddit rather than stored on rcbuildr.
Featured builds are private by default. The original author can claim their build, choose to make it public, or request its removal. Anyone can also ask for a featured build to be removed by emailing hq@rcbuildr.com.
When a featured build is removed, we delete its content and retain only the original post URL and removal date to prevent it from being imported again.
How we use your information
- To operate the site: Manage accounts, display profiles and builds, and provide the site’s features.
- To improve the site: Understand which pages and features are useful.
- To keep things secure: Prevent spam and abuse, protect accounts, and handle content reports.
- To contact you: Send important messages about your account or the site when necessary.
We don’t send marketing emails unless you’ve opted in. We don’t sell your personal information or use it to train AI models.
Third-party services
We use a few services to operate rcbuildr:
- Vercel: Website hosting and photo storage.
- Neon: Database hosting.
- Brevo: Sending account emails, such as password resets.
- Google: Account authentication, if you choose to sign in with Google, and analytics.
These providers process information on our behalf. Your data may be stored or processed outside your country, including in the United States.
We may also disclose information when required by law.
How long we keep your information
Your account information and content remain on rcbuildr until you delete them or request their removal.
Deleted content is removed from the site immediately, although copies may remain in backups for a few weeks before being permanently deleted.
To delete your account, email hq@rcbuildr.com. We’ll remove your account and associated content.
